Axel's take: 7.7/10

Good beachfront value if friendly service matters more than polished rooms and varied dining. a small, budget-friendly beachfront all-inclusive in San José del Cabo, scored for what it is.

Grand Decameron is a small, budget-friendly beachfront all-inclusive, not a luxury resort. We'd consider it for an uncomplicated pool-and-beach break: Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, clean rooms and manageable layout. Shops and restaurants nearby make leaving the resort easy, and its smaller scale suits travelers who dislike sprawling hotel complexes.

The compromises are dated rooms, uneven maintenance and just a buffet and one à la carte restaurant; recent guests disagree on food quality but repeatedly flag limited variety. The beach is for walking rather than swimming because of strong surf and currents. We'd skip it for gourmet dining, ocean swimming or upscale finishes. Also confirm facilities before booking: an August 2026 notice scheduled Mercado buffet and Pool No. 3 works through early September, but gave no reopening date for the Eclipse nightclub.

• Best for: budget-conscious all-inclusive travelers; couples content with pool days; travelers who prefer smaller resorts

• Watch out for: strong surf and currents prevent reliable ocean swimming; dated rooms and limited dining variety; Eclipse nightclub reopening unconfirmed

• Location: Beachfront in San José del Cabo's hotel zone, with shops and restaurants nearby.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, but dated décor and maintenance shortcomings recur in reviews.

• Cleanliness: Mostly a strength across recent reviews, despite occasional housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Friendly restaurant and bar staff attract consistent praise; some guests report uneven service.

• Amenities: Three advertised pools, gym and spa; confirm Eclipse nightclub availability after its maintenance closure.

• Fees and surprises: The official booking site lists a mandatory local tax payable at check-in; standard minibars are unstocked.
