Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong self-catering base, with summer cooling the main caveat. a practical 4-star aparthotel near Holborn Tube, scored for what it is.

Citadines is a practical 4-star aparthotel rather than a full-service luxury hotel, and we'd shortlist it for a central London stay with cooking facilities. Holborn Tube is close, with Covent Garden and the British Museum within walking distance. Refurbishment finished in September 2024, and recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, modern accommodation, useful kitchenettes and helpful staff. It's particularly appealing for longer stays when eating every meal out loses its charm.

The main reservation is temperature control: guests across several sites report weak or unreliable air conditioning, especially during 2026's warmer months. Some also mention lift breakdowns. Housekeeping is weekly rather than daily, and breakfast and parking cost extra. We'd skip it if dependable summer cooling or daily hotel-style servicing is essential; otherwise, it's a comfortable, well-positioned choice.

• Best for: longer stays with self-catering; families wanting cooking facilities; sightseers using the Tube

• Watch out for: recurring summer air-conditioning complaints; weekly rather than daily housekeeping; reports of unreliable lifts

• Location: Close to Holborn Tube, supermarkets and restaurants; walkable to Covent Garden and the British Museum.

• Rooms: Refreshed studios and apartments with kitchenettes; cooling performance is a recurring weakness.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised across recent reviews, with strong Booking.com cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Staff are frequently praised as helpful, although some maintenance problems take longer to resolve.

• Amenities: Kitchenettes, a small gym, communal laundry facilities and complimentary lobby coffee support longer stays.

• Fees and surprises: Weekly housekeeping is standard; additional cleaning, breakfast, parking and pets carry charges.
