7.2/10
A practical Kensington base, but the rooms lag behind the location and staff.
Copthorne Tara is a large, dated 4-star hotel whose strongest asset is Kensington: High Street Kensington Tube is a few minutes away, with shops, restaurants and parks nearby. We'd consider it for a sightseeing trip if location matters more than stylish interiors. Recent Expedia and Hotels.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms. Restaurants, a gym and on-site parking make it a practical base.
The catch is inconsistent room condition. Across Tripadvisor and Hotels.com, tired furnishings and maintenance problems recur; several summer guests also report ineffective air conditioning. Cleanliness earns more praise than criticism overall, but housekeeping lapses do appear. Breakfast can be busy and gets mixed feedback. Parking costs extra, and recent guests report charges for luggage storage and early check-in. We'd skip it for a special occasion or a polished four-star experience.
