Axel's take

a historic 5-star railway hotel beside Liverpool Street station

8.6/10

A strong City base with character, generous extras and excellent transport links.

Andaz is a historic 5-star railway hotel with a contemporary personality, and we'd pick it for City business or an East London weekend. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, clean rooms and welcoming staff; many also appreciate the room sizes by London standards. Complimentary non-alcoholic minibar drinks and snacks add substance to the hospitality, while Liverpool Street station makes getting around straightforward.

It's less convincing if you expect flawless luxury throughout. Recent feedback includes uneven room layouts, air-conditioning problems and occasional slow problem-solving, although the overall guest picture remains strongly positive. Hyatt also adds a discretionary 5% accommodation service charge. We'd look elsewhere for a West End doorstep location or uniformly polished rooms; here, the strongest reasons to book are transport, character and the generally warm welcome.

Best for

  • City business travelers
  • East London food and nightlife trips
  • Travelers prioritizing rail connections

Watch out for

  • Discretionary 5% accommodation service charge
  • Variable room layouts and air-conditioning feedback
  • Not a West End doorstep location
Location
Beside Liverpool Street station, with convenient access to Spitalfields, Shoreditch and the Elizabeth line.
Rooms
Comfort and size draw praise, but layouts, daylight and cooling vary between rooms.
Cleanliness
A consistent strength across Tripadvisor and Expedia feedback.
Service
Usually warm and helpful, with some recent reports of slow responses and check-in problems.
Amenities
Multiple restaurants and bars, a gym and steam room; guests appreciate complimentary minibar refreshments.
Fees and surprises
Hyatt confirms a discretionary 5% accommodation service charge; Liverpool Street redevelopment is approved, but current major disruption was not established.
