Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong City base, especially if you’ll use a studio’s kitchen. a practical 4-star aparthotel near the Barbican Centre, scored for what it is.

Citadines Barbican is a practical 4-star aparthotel rather than a full-service luxury hotel, and it delivers well on that promise. We'd pick it for its useful location near Barbican and Farringdon stations, comfortable accommodation and consistently praised staff. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly highlight cleanliness and helpful service. Studios and apartments add cooking facilities, making this a particularly sensible base for longer stays.

The main catch is housekeeping: the hotel includes weekly rather than daily cleaning, with extra servicing charged separately. Book the room category carefully if you want a kitchen. Some guests mention tired fittings or sound carrying between rooms, although many recent reviewers report peaceful nights. It's a strong choice for independent travelers; we'd skip it if daily servicing and a full-service hotel experience are priorities.

• Best for: longer-stay travelers who cook; Barbican Centre visitors; City business trips

• Watch out for: weekly rather than daily housekeeping; check kitchen facilities by room category; occasional room-to-room noise

• Location: A short walk to Barbican and Farringdon stations, convenient for City sights and transport.

• Rooms: Comfortable rooms, studios and apartments; some guests flag minor wear or variable soundproofing.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent reviews, despite the limited servicing schedule.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff receive repeated praise across sites.

• Amenities: Fitness room, laundry facilities, 24-hour reception and kitchens in studios and apartments.

• Fees and surprises: Extra housekeeping, parking and pets incur charges; breakfast may cost extra depending on your booking.
