Axel's take: 7.7/10

Pick it for the beachfront location and friendly staff, not flawless resort polish. an upscale 4-star beachfront resort near Duval Street, scored for what it is.

The Reach is an upscale 4-star Curio Collection resort whose strongest selling point is its private natural-sand beach near the quieter end of Duval Street. We'd choose it for combining pool time with exploring Old Town on foot. Rooms have balconies, Four Marlins offers oceanfront dining, and access to sister resort Casa Marina adds flexibility. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean rooms.

The catch is that the setting outshines the upkeep. Across both sites, guests describe tired areas and recurring elevator problems, although plenty find their rooms comfortable and well maintained. Seaweed can also make the beach unpleasant or unsuitable for swimming; don't book expecting reliably clear water. A daily resort fee and separately charged valet parking weaken the value. We'd skip it for a luxury-first escape, but it's a good location-led choice with realistic expectations.

• Best for: couples combining beach and Old Town; travelers exploring without a car; guests who prioritize friendly service

• Watch out for: seaweed can disrupt swimming; uneven upkeep and elevator reliability; resort fee and paid valet parking

• Location: Beachfront near Southernmost Point and the quieter end of Duval; walkable to Old Town sights.

• Rooms: All have balconies; comfort earns praise, but condition and maintenance are uneven.

• Cleanliness: Recent guests generally praise clean rooms and diligent housekeeping.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring strength, though problem handling is not uniformly consistent.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, private beach, fitness center, Four Marlins and access to Casa Marina amenities.

• Fees and surprises: Daily resort fee and separate valet charges; beach access does not guarantee good swimming conditions.
