Axel's take: 7.8/10

A strong location-and-pools pick, but not a dependable beach escape. a sprawling 4-star waterfront resort with adults-only guesthouses on southern Duval Street, scored for what it is.

Southernmost is a sprawling 4-star waterfront resort with separate adults-only guesthouses at the quieter end of Duval Street. We'd choose it for walkable sightseeing and pool time rather than polished luxury. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and friendly staff; Tripadvisor feedback is more uneven about maintenance and service. The guesthouses suit couples, with breakfast included for two, unlike standard resort rooms.

The beachfront label needs context: there's a private tanning beach, while swimming is at adjacent public South Beach. Repeated summer 2026 reports describe heavy seaweed and unpleasant odors, so don't make ocean swimming the reason to book. Resort and parking fees also weaken value. Shores Pool underwent September 2026 resurfacing; reopening wasn't confirmed in the sources checked. We'd skip it for a beach-first holiday or consistently upscale service.

• Best for: couples wanting adults-only guesthouses; walkable Old Town sightseeing; pool-focused vacations

• Watch out for: seasonal seaweed and shoreline odors; mandatory resort fee and paid parking; confirm Shores Pool reopening

• Location: Southern Duval puts restaurants and major sights within walking distance, away from the busiest nightlife.

• Rooms: Room types and views vary considerably; comfort earns praise, but maintenance complaints recur.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength in Expedia feedback, despite some housekeeping lapses reported on Tripadvisor.

• Service: Friendly staff receive frequent praise, though problem handling and check-in can be inconsistent.

• Amenities: Three main resort pools, beachfront dining, fitness facilities and spa treatments; confirm Shores Pool availability.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory nightly resort fee and separate parking charge; guesthouse breakfast covers two adults, while standard-room breakfast costs extra.
