Axel's take: 9.0/10

Old Town character, useful kitchens and consistently strong guest feedback make this a standout. a historic 3-star, all-suite guesthouse in Old Town Key West, scored for what it is.

Island City House is a historic 3-star, all-suite guesthouse spread across three buildings in Old Town. It's a strong pick for travelers who want Key West character rather than resort polish: kitchens or kitchenettes, inviting porches, tropical gardens and an outdoor pool. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and recent Expedia guests consistently praise the cleanliness, comfortable beds and walkable location near Duval Street and the harbor. We'd particularly favor it for a longer, partly self-catered stay.

The trade-offs are practical: there are no elevators, parking means finding a legal street space or paying nearby, and reception has limited hours. Traditional furnishings won't suit everyone seeking a sleek contemporary room. Confirm your floor and arrange late arrival beforehand; we'd skip it if easy stair-free access or full-service resort facilities are essential.

  • Best for: couples exploring Old Town on foot; families wanting kitchen facilities; longer, self-catered stays

  • Watch out for: stairs and no elevators; street parking or paid nearby parking; limited reception hours

  • Location: Walkable Old Town setting near Duval Street, restaurants and the harbor; not beachfront.

  • Rooms: Individually styled studios and suites with kitchens or kitchenettes; traditional rather than contemporary.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently strong feedback across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and recent Expedia reviews.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn repeated praise; arrange late arrivals because reception is not staffed around the clock.

  • Amenities: Garden pool, bike rentals, guest laundry and bookable massages; the rooftop Widow's Walk is clothing-optional.

  • Fees and surprises: Nearby parking and bike rentals cost extra; direct bookings carry a cancellation fee even outside the penalty window.
