Axel's take on Solna & Arenastaden: #8 of 8 in Stockholm, 5.1/10
Stay for an arena event or work, not Stockholm's sightseeing atmosphere. Solna offers the strongest hotel value and practical arena access, but weaker sightseeing connections, fewer nearby choices and a modern office setting limit its appeal.
Arenastaden makes sense when Strawberry Arena, Mall of Scandinavia or nearby offices explain the trip. The advantage is practical: walking back after an event instead of joining the journey into town. Solna station also makes central Stockholm accessible by commuter train, although the station-to-arena walk is part of that journey, not an optional extra.
For an ordinary first visit, I would stay in the inner city and travel out for the event. This is a modern shopping, office and stadium setting rather than Stockholm's historic streets. Do not plan around an operating Arenastaden metro station: that extension is still under construction. Solna centrum's existing Blue-line station is a different location.
- Best for: sports fans, business trips and conventions
- Skip it if: This is primarily a first-time sightseeing trip; You want historic streets and varied nightlife nearby
- Getting around: Solna station has commuter rail and tram 30; the arena and mall are walkable, while Blue line 11 at Solna centrum involves a separate walk; ARN commuter train 40 serves Solna directly, and city sightseeing requires a train journey.
- After dark: Expect concentrated crowds around major events; without an event, treat this as a practical shopping-and-office base rather than a nightlife district.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $120 a night · usually 7% under the public rate

What paying more buys

Neither premium is essential if you're only returning after an event. Typical rates with Axel here run from $116 a night at Scandic Järva Krog to $169 at The Winery Hotel, WorldHotels Crafted (last 30 days).
