Axel's take on Puerto Los Cabos: #8 of 8 in Los Cabos, 5.2/10
Choose the marina and quiet coastal stays, not easy access to everything. Good hotels, fishing and coastal privacy suit specialist trips, but sparse doorstep options and weaker value make it less useful for general exploring.
Beyond the San José estuary, Puerto Los Cabos combines a working marina with golf, coastal residences and more secluded stays. La Playa, around the harbor, has neighborhood businesses and fishing activity; properties farther along the coast offer a more self-contained routine. It is particularly appealing when an early boat departure or quiet days shape the trip.
The catch is that a Puerto Los Cabos address does not promise walking access to the marina, much less historic San José. Check the actual entrance and plan rides for gallery evenings and town dinners. Choose it deliberately for fishing, golf or privacy; first-timers wanting a little of everything will usually be happier in Médano or central San José.
- Best for: a quiet stay, sports fans
- Skip it if: You want spontaneous town outings; You want Cabo San Lucas nightlife
- Getting around: Walk locally around La Playa’s marina businesses; do not rely on the Highway 1 bus for doorstep access, and arrange a car, taxis or a booked SJD transfer for coastal properties.
- After dark: Plan on marina restaurants or a self-contained resort evening, with a ride arranged if you dine in historic San José.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $540 a night · usually 7% under the public rate

Where to look in Puerto Los Cabos
- Mantarraya, La Playita marina. Start by the working harbor for fishing activity and neighborhood restaurants, rather than a wholly self-contained coastal stay. Hotels here: El Ganzo Hotel.
- Boulevard Mar de Cortés. Look along the coastal development for golf, privacy and slower days; historic San José is a separate outing. Hotels here: Secrets Puerto Los Cabos - Adults Only - All Inclusive, Zadun Los Cabos, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve Residence, JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa.
How to choose
- Choose El Ganzo Hotel if you want adults-only boutique character, art and music, and marina-side restaurants nearby.
- Choose Secrets Puerto Los Cabos - Adults Only - All Inclusive if you want an adults-only all-inclusive centered on attentive service, pools and spa time.
- Choose Zadun Los Cabos, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve Residence if your extended family needs a private three- to six-bedroom residence and will mostly stay on-property.
What paying more buys
El Ganzo offers boutique character and rooftop lounging cheaper than most here; Secrets adds an adults-only all-inclusive routine around the neighborhood's middle range. Zadun's residences cost vastly more for three- to six-bedroom layouts and a personal Tosoani concierge. Couples and small families who do not need private-villa space have little reason to make that leap. Typical rates with Axel here run from $467 a night at El Ganzo Hotel to $11,225 at Zadun Los Cabos, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve Residence (last 30 days).
