Axel's take on North Point & Quarry Bay: #8 of 10 in Hong Kong, 6.4/10
Choose everyday Island life and eastern offices over sightseeing immediately downstairs. Solid hotels and reasonable value suit longer stays, but fewer nearby attractions and longer sightseeing journeys keep it below the central neighbourhoods.
North Point offers market streets and everyday dining; Quarry Bay adds the office-focused world of Taikoo Place. The waterfront is now a stronger reason to stay: the final eastern section of the East Coast Boardwalk opened on December 29, 2025, linking North Point’s promenade with Hoi Yu Street in Quarry Bay. It suits longer visits and travellers working in the eastern business district.
This is a deliberate alternative, not our default for a short first visit. You will usually take transport to headline sights and livelier bar streets. Quiet is relative: King’s Road is an urban thoroughfare, and sections of the boardwalk sit beneath the highway. Choose it for routine and waterfront walks, not a nightlife holiday.
- Best for: a quiet stay, business trips and conventions
- Skip it if: You want sightseeing on foot from your door; You want a substantial local bar scene
- Getting around: Island/Tseung Kwan O lines at North Point and Quarry Bay, plus trams; waterfront walkable; HKG by A11 for North Point or A12 for Quarry Bay.
- After dark: Reddit replies describe limited drinking options: expect dinner and a waterfront walk rather than a late bar crawl.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $194 a night
Where to stay in Hong Kong: every neighborhood ranked
Where to look in North Point & Quarry Bay
- King's Road: Tin Hau–Fortress Hill. Choose this stretch for neighborhood restaurants and tram journeys; evening dining is more compelling than a long bar crawl. Hotels here: Tuve, Eco Tree Hotel Causeway Bay, Nina Hotel Causeway Bay, Harbour Grand Hong Kong, Hotel Alexandra, iclub Fortress Hill Hotel.
- North Point Ferry Pier. Start by the waterfront for harbour walks and nearby dining; suits visitors who prefer evening strolls to nightlife. Hotels here: Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour.
- Tai Koo MTR. Choose this eastern commercial pocket for a shopping-and-office routine rather than sightseeing immediately downstairs. Hotels here: EAST Hong Kong.
How to choose
- Choose EAST Hong Kong if Tai Koo transport, Cityplaza access and stylish rooms suit your business trip or return visit.
- Choose Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour if waterfront surroundings and rooftop swimming matter more than a central tourist address or large standard rooms.
- Choose Eco Tree Hotel Causeway Bay if you want a cheaper, clean transport base and don't need on-site breakfast or laundry.
What paying more buys
Eco Tree Causeway Bay and iclub Fortress Hill keep costs down with compact rooms and basic facilities. EAST adds larger entry rooms, dining, a rooftop bar and a pool; Hyatt Centric buys a waterfront setting and rooftop infinity pool, but not especially large standard rooms. The premium isn't worthwhile if you'll spend your days elsewhere and skip hotel leisure facilities. Typical rates with Axel here run from $136 a night at iclub Fortress Hill Hotel to $304 at Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour (last 30 days).
