Axel's take on Nana & Asok (Sukhumvit): #5 of 8 in Bangkok, 7.0/10
Asok delivers exceptional connections; Nana adds nightlife and more street-level compromises. Nana and Asok deliver strong hotels and abundant dining and drinks, but weak citywide sightseeing access and value outweigh their useful rail interchange.
Asok earns its place through the BTS–MRT interchange, not because Sukhumvit is pleasant to walk. Terminal 21, international restaurants and access to Benjakitti Park make a practical everyday mix. Nana adds Middle Eastern dining, bars and clubs, particularly around Soi 11; this is a base for people who want options late.
The compromises are immediate: traffic, awkward pavements and adult-entertainment pockets around Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy. You can stay away from those streets without abandoning the rail connections. Favor Asok if transport matters most; skip the nightlife sois if you are traveling with children or expect quiet after dinner.
- Best for: nightlife, travelers without a car, sports fans, business trips and conventions
- Skip it if: You want quiet streets and relaxed walking; You prefer to avoid adult-entertainment areas entirely
- Getting around: BTS Sukhumvit Line at Nana and Asok meets MRT Blue Line at Sukhumvit; walk to Terminal 21 and toward Benjakitti Park. BKK: Airport Rail Link to Makkasan, then MRT from Phetchaburi; DMK: Red Line to Krung Thep Aphiwat, then MRT from Bang Sue.
- After dark: Soi 11, Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy stay busy late; the nightlife is concentrated, but street choice makes a major difference to sleep.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $146 a night
