Axel's take: 8.4/10

A comfortable waterfront base with strong breakfast and easy transport, outside the historic centre. A modern 4-star waterfront hotel beside Fisketorvet shopping centre, scored for what it is.

Copenhagen Island is a modern 4-star waterfront hotel, and we'd choose it for dependable comfort rather than boutique character. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful staff and breakfast overlooking the harbour. Nearby metro and train connections make sightseeing straightforward, while Fisketorvet next door is handy for food and shopping. A harbour-view room makes the most of the setting; standard rooms face the city.

The trade-offs are compact entry-level rooms and a location outside the historic sightseeing core. The hotel lists standard doubles at 19 square metres, and several guests find rooms tight. Housekeeping is on request, a policy management confirms on Tripadvisor, so arrange cleaning rather than assuming it happens automatically. We'd skip it if generous room space or sights immediately outside the door matter most.

• Best for: Couples wanting harbour views; Sightseers comfortable using public transport; Business travelers

• Watch out for: Compact standard rooms; Housekeeping must be requested; Outside the historic sightseeing core

• Location: Waterfront setting beside Fisketorvet, with metro and S-train access nearby rather than old-town doorstep convenience.

• Rooms: Air-conditioned; standard doubles are 19 square metres and city-facing, while higher categories offer harbour views.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness feedback, but request-based housekeeping catches some guests out.

• Service: Recent reviews across several sites consistently praise friendly, helpful staff.

• Amenities: Popular breakfast buffet, gym, lobby bar and bike rental; the nearby harbour bath is a public facility.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast inclusion depends on the booking; parking and bike rental cost extra.
