Axel's take: 8.9/10

Choose it for waterfront character and thoughtful service, not sprawling five-star rooms. A five-star boutique hotel in converted warehouses on Nyhavn, scored for what it is.

71 Nyhavn is a five-star boutique hotel in two historic waterfront warehouses, and a strong pick for travelers who prefer character to grand-hotel scale. Exposed beams and Scandinavian furnishings give it a distinct sense of place. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, cleanliness and substantial breakfast. Its position at the harbor end of Nyhavn puts sightseeing and restaurants within easy walking reach without placing you amid the busiest restaurant stretch.

The main compromise is space: entry-level rooms measure just 14–20 square meters, and guests regularly describe compact rooms and bathrooms. Check your exact category rather than assuming five stars guarantees generous proportions or a water view. Fitness facilities are at a sister hotel, not downstairs. We'd skip it if spacious rooms and extensive on-site facilities matter more than location and personal service.

• Best for: Couples on a Copenhagen city break; Travelers who appreciate historic buildings; Sightseers exploring on foot

• Watch out for: Compact entry-level rooms and bathrooms; Water views depend on room category; Fitness facilities are off-site

• Location: At the harbor end of Nyhavn, with central sights, restaurants and metro access within walking distance.

• Rooms: Characterful, air-conditioned rooms with exposed beams; entry categories are small, so compare layouts and views.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong guest feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring highlight, including praise for handling problems.

• Amenities: Highly praised breakfast, Il Molo Italian restaurant and bar, bike rental; sister-hotel fitness access.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and bike rental cost extra; the few hotel parking spaces cannot be reserved ahead.
