Axel's take: 5.4/10

Friendly staff and easy highway access cannot make up for inconsistent upkeep. An aging full-service suburban hotel, listed as four-star, scored for what it is.

Wyndham Independence is an aging full-service suburban hotel, not the polished four-star stay its listing might suggest. Its strongest arguments are easy access to I-77 and I-480, free parking and frequently praised front-desk staff. Some recent Expedia guests report clean, comfortable rooms and good value, but we'd treat it as a practical overnight option rather than a destination hotel.

The problem is consistency: Expedia and Trip.com reviews repeatedly flag inadequate cleaning, worn furnishings and maintenance failures. These are more than cosmetic shortcomings, even allowing for the positive stays. September 2026 guests also reported the hot tub out of service; confirm pool facilities directly before booking. We'd skip it for a special occasion, a pool-focused family trip or whenever dependable room condition matters more than highway convenience.

• Best for: Drivers making a short Cleveland-area stop; Budget-minded travelers prioritizing highway access

• Watch out for: Recurring cleaning and maintenance complaints; Confirm pool and hot-tub availability; Breakfast charges and a check-in deposit

• Location: Convenient suburban base off I-77 and I-480; better suited to drivers than downtown sightseeing on foot.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but worn carpets, broken fittings and inconsistent upkeep recur in guest reports.

• Cleanliness: Some guests find spotless rooms; repeated reports of dirty bathrooms and poorly cleaned common areas undermine reliability.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are the clearest recurring strength, including in otherwise negative reviews.

• Amenities: Restaurant, gym and indoor pool are advertised; September 2026 guests reported the hot tub closed.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; breakfast and dogs cost extra, and Expedia lists a required deposit.
