#4 of 9 hotels in Gare du Midi & Saint-Gilles by Axel's take. Gare du Midi & Saint-Gilles is #8 of 9 places to stay in Brussels. The best hotels in Gare du Midi & Saint-Gilles, ranked · Where to stay in Brussels

Axel's take: 8.1/10

Stylish, comfortable rooms near Midi, but the surrounding streets are the compromise. a design-focused 3-star near Brussels-Midi station, scored for what it is.

Urban Yard is a design-focused 3-star that delivers more character than the usual station hotel. We'd pick it for comfortable beds, botanical interiors and good value rather than a postcard Brussels setting. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness and helpful staff, while recent Tripadvisor reviews reinforce the comfortable-room verdict. The courtyard and well-liked breakfast buffet add appeal, and Brussels-Midi is roughly a ten-minute walk away.

The main compromise is outside: guests across sites describe run-down surrounding streets, and several recent reviewers felt uncomfortable walking nearby, particularly after dark. Grand Place is around 20 minutes away on foot, so this isn't an old-town doorstep address. Room sizes vary considerably, and breakfast isn't always included. It's a strong pick for rail travelers; we'd skip it if an inviting neighborhood is your priority.

Best for: Eurostar and rail travelers; value-minded city breakers; families wanting larger room options
Watch out for: surrounding streets can feel uncomfortable after dark; room sizes vary considerably; security deposit required at check-in
Location: Convenient for Brussels-Midi; roughly 20 minutes on foot to Grand Place, with mixed neighborhood feedback.
Rooms: Air-conditioned, design-led rooms with showers; doubles range from compact to spacious, with larger family options.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.
Service: Helpful staff frequently praised; 24-hour reception and free luggage storage.
Amenities: Courtyard garden, buffet breakfast and free Wi-Fi; no pool or room service.
Fees and surprises: Security deposit and city tax apply; breakfast depends on your booking, and parking is off-site.
