#7 of 9 hotels in Rogier & Gare du Nord by Axel's take. Rogier & Gare du Nord is #6 of 9 places to stay in Brussels. The best hotels in Rogier & Gare du Nord, ranked · Where to stay in Brussels

Axel's take: 7.2/10

A practical budget base, stronger on staff and breakfast than room comfort. A no-frills youth hostel near Botanique, with dorms and private rooms, scored for what it is.

Van Gogh is a no-frills youth hostel, not a conventional hotel: a reasonable pick for budget travelers who prioritize transport and breakfast over comfort. Dorms and private rooms broaden its appeal, while Botanique metro is a short walk away and Grand Place roughly 20–30 minutes on foot. Hostelworld guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and included breakfast; Booking.com’s overall verdict is good rather than outstanding.

The compromises are firm beds, basic furnishings and uneven bathroom upkeep, with recent guests describing noise, smells and maintenance niggles alongside clean-room reports. Bring a towel and expect to fit your own bedding. An August 2026 Hotels.com guest also reported nearby construction; its current status is unconfirmed. We'd skip it for a quiet couples’ break or dependable hotel-style comfort.

  • Best for: Budget-minded backpackers; Short sightseeing stays; Groups comfortable with hostel basics

  • Watch out for: Firm beds and self-service bedding; Noise and inconsistent bathroom upkeep; Nearby construction reported in August 2026; status unconfirmed

  • Location: Near Botanique metro; allow roughly 20–30 minutes to walk to Grand Place.

  • Rooms: Dorms and private rooms; comfort is basic, with recurring firm-bed complaints.

  • Cleanliness: Booking.com rates cleanliness 7.5/10; recent reports range from clean rooms to bathroom odors and mildew.

  • Service: Helpful reception staff are a consistent strength; the official FAQ confirms round-the-clock staffing.

  • Amenities: Included continental breakfast, Wi-Fi, communal spaces and terraces; current listings show an elevator.

  • Fees and surprises: Towels cost extra; guests make their beds. Official terms require Kaleo membership—confirm whether your booking includes it.
