Hotels in Barcelonaa historic five-star grand hotel in central Barcelona
9.2/10
Old-world grandeur backed by unusually consistent service, right in central Barcelona.
El Palace is a historic five-star grand hotel in Eixample, and a strong pick if you want traditional luxury rather than minimalist design. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise genuinely helpful staff, immaculate rooms and comfortable beds. The central location makes sightseeing straightforward, while the rooftop garden, guest-only pool and much-praised breakfast give you reasons to linger. We'd choose it for a special occasion where attentive service matters as much as the setting.
The trade-offs are mostly about taste and extras: the ornate interiors won't suit everyone, and dining here comes at luxury-hotel prices. Hotels.com lists the outdoor pool as seasonal, so confirm availability if swimming matters. Check whether breakfast is included, too. We'd skip it for a beach-focused trip or if you prefer contemporary, understated surroundings.

Best for: couples celebrating a special occasion; lovers of traditional grand hotels; luxury sightseeing breaks
Watch out for: ornate, traditional interiors; seasonal outdoor pool; breakfast inclusion varies
Location: Walkable Eixample base near Passeig de Gràcia and Plaça de Catalunya; not beachfront.
Rooms: Guests consistently praise spacious, comfortable rooms; the decorative style is deliberately traditional.
Cleanliness: A standout across sources, with strong ratings and repeated praise for immaculate rooms.
Service: Warm, professional staff and helpful concierges are the clearest recurring strengths.
Amenities: Rooftop garden and guest-only outdoor pool, Mayan spa, restaurants and fitness facilities.
Fees and surprises: City tax is collected at the property; breakfast, nearby parking and transfers can cost extra.
