#1 of 3 hotels in Downtown Bakersfield by Axel's take. Downtown Bakersfield is #1 of 7 places to stay in Bakersfield. The best hotels in Downtown Bakersfield, ranked · Where to stay in Bakersfield

Axel's take: 8.8/10

Downtown character and genuinely helpful staff, with nightlife as the main trade-off. A historic downtown boutique hotel with restaurants and a lively bar scene, scored for what it is.

The Padre is a historic downtown boutique hotel, not a generic roadside three-star, and it's a strong pick for a Bakersfield stay with some personality. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds; the restaurant, cafe and bars give you reasons to stay in rather than drive elsewhere. We'd particularly choose it for a Fox Theater evening or a couples' stopover.

The main compromise is quiet. Booking.com's property information explicitly warns about loud lounge music, so request a room away from the action if sleep comes first. Recent Tripadvisor reviews include some maintenance and room-condition disappointments, but these sit against a much stronger overall positive picture. Valet parking and breakfast cost extra. We'd skip it if you want a reliably hushed, all-included overnight stop.

Best for: Couples wanting a characterful stopover; Fox Theater concertgoers; Travelers who enjoy on-site dining and bars
Watch out for: Loud lounge music can reach rooms; Valet parking and breakfast cost extra; Occasional room-maintenance complaints
Location: Downtown, within walking distance of Fox Theater and nearby dining.
Rooms: Distinctively styled; entry rooms are compact, with larger rooms and suites available.
Cleanliness: Strong overall guest feedback, despite occasional recent room-condition complaints.
Service: Friendly front-desk and valet staff are consistent strengths across review sites.
Amenities: Restaurant, cafe, rooftop patio, free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour gym.
Fees and surprises: Valet parking, cooked-to-order breakfast and dog stays carry additional charges.
