#6 of 9 hotels in California Avenue by Axel's take. California Avenue is #3 of 7 places to stay in Bakersfield. The best hotels in California Avenue, ranked · Where to stay in Bakersfield

Axel's take: 6.6/10

Useful for a budget stopover, but noise and uneven upkeep limit its appeal. a basic 2-star roadside motel near Highway 99, scored for what it is.

This basic 2-star roadside motel is a workable budget stopover, not somewhere we'd choose for a relaxing stay. Highway access, free parking and pet-friendly policies make the practical case. Recent Expedia guests often praise friendly staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms, though the overall picture is mixed rather than reliably good.

The trade-offs are nighttime noise, inconsistent housekeeping and maintenance, and repeated guest concerns about feeling uncomfortable around the property. Positive recent stays mean it isn't uniformly poor, but we'd skip it if quiet sleep or dependable room condition matters most. Don't book for swimming without calling: despite the official site's outdoor-pool listing, a July 2026 guest reported the pool covered and unavailable. A check-in deposit is also listed.

Best for: budget-conscious overnight drivers; travelers with pets
Watch out for: nighttime noise and guest concerns about the surroundings; uneven housekeeping and maintenance; pool availability needs confirmation
Location: Convenient highway access and nearby restaurants; some guests report feeling uncomfortable around the property.
Rooms: Basic air-conditioned rooms; comfortable beds earn praise, but maintenance and noise are inconsistent.
Cleanliness: Many recent guests report clean rooms, alongside recurring complaints about dirt, stains and neglected upkeep.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength in recent guest feedback.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and parking; no breakfast; advertised outdoor pool was reported unavailable in July 2026.
Fees and surprises: A check-in deposit is listed; smoking rooms are offered, so explicitly reserve non-smoking if needed.
