#3 of 3 hotels in Downtown Bakersfield by Axel's take. Downtown Bakersfield is #1 of 7 places to stay in Bakersfield. The best hotels in Downtown Bakersfield, ranked · Where to stay in Bakersfield

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A solid downtown stopover with friendly staff, comfortable beds and some dated corners. a practical, older 2-star hotel in downtown Bakersfield, scored for what it is.

Best Western Plus Hill House is a practical, older 2-star hotel that makes sense for a Bakersfield stopover or downtown event. We'd pick it for comfortable beds, free parking and easy access to the arena and train station rather than stylish surroundings. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean, spacious rooms; Booking.com's overall ratings support that broadly positive picture. The outdoor pool adds a useful extra.

The trade-off is age: recent guests describe worn bathrooms and tired common areas, even when their rooms were comfortable. Breakfast costs extra, and Expedia lists no elevator, so request a ground-floor room if stairs are a problem. Best Western also says there is no fitness center, despite some booking-site listings. It's good for a straightforward short stay; we'd skip it if fresh interiors and extensive facilities matter most.

Best for: Road-trip stopovers; Downtown arena visitors; Travelers arriving by train
Watch out for: Dated bathrooms and common areas; Breakfast costs extra; No elevator
Location: Downtown, a short walk from the arena, Bakersfield Museum of Art and train station.
Rooms: Spacious rooms and comfortable beds draw praise; bathrooms and some finishes show their age.
Cleanliness: Broadly positive across sites, though individual recent housekeeping lapses mean consistency is not perfect.
Service: Friendly, efficient front-desk staff are a recurring strength in recent reviews.
Amenities: Outdoor pool, restaurant, free Wi-Fi and parking; the brand says no fitness center or guest laundry.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast is extra; an incidental hold applies, and pet-friendly rooms carry a fee and deposit.
