Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical central base with helpful staff, rather than a polished luxury stay. a central 4-star business hotel, scored for what it is.

Accra City Hotel is a central 4-star business hotel that makes most sense for work trips and sightseeing. We'd choose it for the location near Makola Market and the National Theatre, dependable housekeeping and useful leisure facilities. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise cleanliness and helpful staff, while the pool, tennis court and breakfast earn regular compliments. Rooms are comfortable and practical rather than a reason to book in themselves.

The trade-offs are uneven execution and a distinctly businesslike atmosphere. Tripadvisor guests repeatedly mention weak Wi-Fi, and some report maintenance or reception frustrations; an Expedia guest also describes very slow room service. Confirm breakfast inclusion and airport-transfer charges, because listings disagree. It's a good all-round base, but we'd skip it for a resort-style holiday or if reliable internet is essential.

• Best for: business travelers; central Accra sightseeing; travelers who want a pool and tennis

• Watch out for: Wi-Fi reliability; occasional service and maintenance delays; conflicting airport-shuttle inclusions

• Location: Central Barnes Road base near Makola Market, the National Theatre and cultural attractions.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and functional; occasional maintenance faults temper four-star expectations.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and recent Expedia feedback.

• Service: Helpful staff attract frequent praise, though reception and room-service experiences vary.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, tennis, restaurant and bar; the hotel also caters heavily to conferences.

• Fees and surprises: Confirm breakfast and shuttle inclusions; Expedia lists shuttle, pet and late-checkout charges.
