#5 of 9 hotels in California Avenue by Axel's take. California Avenue is #3 of 7 places to stay in Bakersfield. The best hotels in California Avenue, ranked · Where to stay in Bakersfield

Axel's take: 7.0/10

A workable budget stop with friendly staff, but room quality varies. a no-frills 2-star roadside motel, scored for what it is.

This is a no-frills 2-star motel, best treated as a practical overnight stop rather than a destination. We'd consider it for a budget road trip: parking and Wi-Fi are free, pets are welcome, and restaurants are within walking distance. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently make the staff its strongest selling point; many recent Expedia reviews also describe clean rooms and straightforward check-in.

The catch is inconsistency. Other guests across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Expedia report dirty floors or bathrooms, unpleasant odors and worn beds. Some also felt uncomfortable around the property, although others describe quiet, uneventful stays. Expedia lists the outdoor pool for March–September only, so don't count on an October swim. We'd skip it if dependable housekeeping and a reassuring setting matter more than keeping costs down.

Best for: budget road-trip stopovers; travelers with pets; drivers wanting nearby restaurants
Watch out for: uneven housekeeping and room condition; mixed feedback on the surrounding setting; outdoor pool listed for March–September only
Location: Walkable dining and convenient highway access; guests differ on how comfortable the surroundings feel.
Rooms: Basic, air-conditioned rooms with exterior access; bed comfort and maintenance vary.
Cleanliness: Many recent guests report clean rooms, but dirt and odor complaints recur across sites.
Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are the most consistent positive.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, coin laundry and a seasonal outdoor pool; no elevator.
Fees and surprises: Self-parking is free; early check-in costs extra, and refrigerator availability depends on room type.
