Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong sightseeing base with helpful staff and breakfast included, rather than hotel luxuries. a straightforward 3-star sightseeing base in Bankside, scored for what it is.

This straightforward 3-star in Bankside is a strong pick if you’ll spend most of your time exploring London. Tate Modern, the riverside and Southwark Tube are within easy walking distance. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean rooms, while Booking.com’s ratings reinforce those strengths. Included hot breakfast makes it a practical choice for a short city break.

The compromises are mostly ordinary budget-chain ones: some rooms feel compact, and recent feedback suggests parts of the hotel show wear. Breakfast can get crowded, and the largely unchanged daily selection may become repetitive on longer stays. There’s a lobby bar, but no full restaurant or pool. We’d choose it for location and dependable basics; skip it if spacious rooms, polished interiors or extensive facilities matter most.

• Best for: sightseeing-focused couples; short London city breaks; travelers who want breakfast included

• Watch out for: some compact rooms and signs of wear; busy, repetitive breakfast; limited paid parking

• Location: Walkable to Tate Modern, the Thames and Southwark Tube, with Borough Market also nearby.

• Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; size and condition draw more mixed feedback than cleanliness.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a recurring positive across several review sites.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, free Wi-Fi and a lobby bar; no pool or full restaurant.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and spaces are limited; IHG lists a vehicle-height limit of 1.6 meters.
