Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong sightseeing base with useful kitchens, but less polish than its address suggests. a practical 4-star aparthotel near Trafalgar Square, scored for what it is.

Citadines is a practical 4-star aparthotel near Trafalgar Square, and we'd pick it for sightseeing convenience and self-catering rather than luxury. Embankment and Charing Cross stations are close, with the National Gallery, theatres and Thames within easy reach. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean accommodation and useful room space. Kitchens and laundry facilities make it especially sensible for families and longer visits.

The trade-off is polish: some guests describe tired bathrooms and maintenance niggles, while lower street-facing rooms can catch traffic noise. Housekeeping is weekly, not daily; extra cleaning costs more. Check the exact layout before booking if mobility matters, since some apartments have internal stairs and guests flag high-sided baths. We'd skip it for a pampering hotel break, but it's a strong, practical central London base.

• Best for: first-time London sightseers; families wanting cooking facilities; longer self-catering stays

• Watch out for: weekly rather than daily housekeeping; street noise in some lower rooms; high-sided baths and some split-level layouts

• Location: Excellent for walking to major sights, with Embankment and Charing Cross stations nearby.

• Rooms: Useful kitchens and generally good space; some bathrooms and fittings show their age.

• Cleanliness: Broadly positive recent feedback, though routine housekeeping is weekly.

• Service: Helpful reception staff earn repeated praise across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: In-room kitchens, laundry facilities, free lobby hot drinks and a 24-hour reception.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast, extra cleaning and pet stays carry charges; confirm accessibility and apartment layout directly.
