Axel's take: 7.9/10

Good-value space and Arch views, but maintenance needs more consistency. A simple 3-star apartment hotel outside central Cabo San Lucas, scored for what it is.

Sunrock is a simple 3-star apartment hotel outside central Cabo San Lucas, and a strong pick for families who prioritize space over resort polish. Two-bedroom units have kitchenettes and balconies; book an ocean-view category for guaranteed views. Seven pools and a gym add useful extras. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and views, making this good value for travelers happy with a quieter base.

The trade-off is uneven upkeep. Despite the hotel's advertising of remodeled suites, guest reports still describe basic furnishings, limited cookware and recurring hot-water or shower-pressure problems. The hillside layout and lack of elevators also matter: request a ground-floor unit if stairs are difficult. You'll want transport for downtown outings, and the beach is nearby rather than directly onsite. We'd skip it for dependable resort-level comfort or an effortless, walk-everywhere stay.

• Best for: Families needing two bedrooms; Value-minded groups with a car; Travelers seeking a quieter base

• Watch out for: Recurring hot-water and shower-pressure complaints; Hilly grounds and no elevators; Basic furnishings and limited cookware

• Location: Outside downtown, with beach access nearby; transport is useful for restaurants and nightlife.

• Rooms: Spacious two-bedroom units with kitchenettes and balconies; condition and kitchen supplies vary.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated across sites, although some guests report mustiness or worn furniture.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception and housekeeping are consistent strengths in recent reviews.

• Amenities: Seven outdoor pools, a gym, free Wi-Fi, onsite dining and free onsite parking.

• Fees and surprises: Local tourism tax is collected onsite; breakfast inclusion varies, and dogs incur extra charges.
