Axel's take: 9.1/10

A strong central London choice for quiet nights, comfortable rooms and genuinely helpful service. a polished 4-star courtyard hotel off Fleet Street, scored for what it is.

Apex Temple Court is a polished 4-star tucked behind Fleet Street, and we'd put it high on the shortlist for a comfortable London base without five-star fuss. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Trip.com guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Even entry-level City rooms measure 25 square metres, giving couples reasonable breathing room. The courtyard setting offers a quieter return after sightseeing, with St Paul's and the riverside within walking distance.

The trade-offs are mostly practical: Temple and Blackfriars require a short walk, breakfast isn't included in every booking, and there's no pool or hotel parking. A few recent Tripadvisor guests report awkward air-conditioning controls or rooms showing some wear, but these don't dominate the feedback. We'd skip it if doorstep nightlife, sweeping views or resort-style facilities matter more than comfort and calm.

• Best for: couples on sightseeing breaks; City business travelers; travelers prioritizing quiet and comfort

• Watch out for: breakfast may cost extra; no pool or on-site parking; occasional air-conditioning niggles

• Location: Quiet courtyard off Fleet Street; Temple and Blackfriars are a short walk away.

• Rooms: City rooms start at 25 square metres; comfortable beds earn frequent praise, though views vary.

• Cleanliness: A standout strength across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Trip.com guest feedback.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring highlight, including responsive handling of room problems.

• Amenities: Chambers restaurant, bars, courtyard seating, free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour gym; no pool.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; late checkout carries a fee and is subject to availability.
