#3 of 9 hotels in California Avenue by Axel's take. California Avenue is #3 of 7 places to stay in Bakersfield. The best hotels in California Avenue, ranked · Where to stay in Bakersfield

Axel's take: 7.1/10

Useful kitchens and friendly staff, but maintenance needs more consistency. a no-frills extended-stay hotel with in-room kitchens, scored for what it is.

This is a no-frills extended-stay hotel, best suited to travelers who want room to spread out and cook rather than a full-service stay. We'd consider it for a longer work trip: kitchens, guest laundry and free parking are practical advantages. Recent Expedia and Hotels.com guests frequently praise spacious, clean rooms and helpful staff, although the overall guest verdict is good rather than outstanding.

The trade-offs are dated interiors, uneven maintenance and a breakfast that amounts to coffee and packaged snacks. Multiple guests reported elevator outages during 2025, with another report in January 2026; its current status is unconfirmed, so call if stairs would be a problem. Housekeeping isn't daily, either. We'd skip it if polished rooms, a substantial breakfast or dependable step-free access are priorities.

Best for: longer work trips on a budget; travelers who cook their own meals; road-trippers with a car
Watch out for: repeated elevator outages; confirm current operation; very limited grab-and-go breakfast; dated rooms and uneven maintenance
Location: Convenient freeway access and nearby restaurants; a car is useful for getting around.
Rooms: Spacious suites with kitchens, but guests repeatedly mention worn finishes and maintenance issues.
Cleanliness: Many recent guests praise clean rooms, though other reviews report cleaning lapses and odors.
Service: Helpful, personable staff receive frequent praise; some guests report unattended reception and difficult problem handling.
Amenities: In-room kitchens, guest laundry, gym, free Wi-Fi and free parking; breakfast is snacks rather than a full meal.
Fees and surprises: Pet fees and extra housekeeping charges apply; standard cleaning is not daily, and kitchen equipment may require a front-desk request.
