Axel's take: 7.9/10

Come for beachfront balconies and a lively atmosphere, not a quiet retreat. a lively, casual 3-star beachfront resort, scored for what it is.

Lani Kai is a casual 3-star beachfront resort that makes most sense for travelers who want sand, Gulf views and entertainment together. We'd pick it for a sociable beach break rather than polished resort luxury. Expedia lists a 2024 remodel, and recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, refreshed rooms, beachfront views and welcoming staff. The hotel's sixth-floor Island View Sports Bar is now open, adding another reason to stay on-site.

The trade-offs are meaningful: live music can carry into rooms, the pool is small and tucked away, and parking, resort fees and beach-chair rentals add up. Tripadvisor guests also describe uneven front-desk experiences alongside plenty of service praise. We'd skip it for an early-to-bed escape or a pool-centered vacation; it's better suited to travelers who actively enjoy a busy beach-bar atmosphere.

• Best for: friends seeking a sociable beach break; couples who enjoy live music; beach-first travelers

• Watch out for: music and neighboring-room noise; resort, parking and beach-rental charges; small pool away from the beachfront

• Location: Directly on Fort Myers Beach, with nearby dining within walking distance.

• Rooms: Refreshed beachfront rooms offer Gulf views; noise isolation is a recurring weakness.

• Cleanliness: Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests consistently praise clean rooms.

• Service: Generally warm and helpful, though some recent guests report disappointing check-in service.

• Amenities: Beach bars, rooftop dining, an open sports bar and game room; the outdoor pool is modest.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory nightly resort fee, paid limited parking and separate beach-chair and umbrella rentals.
