#1 of 5 hotels in Okaloosa Island by Axel's take. Okaloosa Island is #3 of 5 places to stay in Destin. The best hotels in Okaloosa Island, ranked · Where to stay in Destin

Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong family beach pick, with pools worth prioritizing over included extras. a family-focused 3-star beachfront resort on Okaloosa Island, scored for what it is.

This 3-star beachfront resort is a strong pick for families who want easy beach days and plenty to do without driving. It’s on Okaloosa Island in Fort Walton Beach, not in Destin itself. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise clean, comfortable rooms and helpful staff; the lazy river, indoor pool and seasonal children’s activities give it more family appeal than a standard Holiday Inn. We’d choose a beachfront room if the view matters.

The main compromises are extras and dining consistency. Parking costs extra, beach chairs and umbrellas are rentals, and breakfast isn’t automatically included. Several recent Expedia guests describe slow or understaffed restaurant service, despite otherwise positive stays. We’d skip it for an adults-focused retreat or if you expect an all-inclusive resort; for a family pool-and-beach holiday, it delivers well.

  • Best for: families with young children; pool-and-beach vacations; travelers wanting nearby family attractions

  • Watch out for: paid parking and beach-chair rentals; breakfast inclusion depends on booking; occasional restaurant delays

  • Location: Directly beachfront on Okaloosa Island, with the Gulfarium and Boardwalk within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Comfortable rooms with microwaves, refrigerators and Keurig machines; inland and beachfront categories differ.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest feedback.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn repeated praise; restaurant service is less consistent.

  • Amenities: Lazy river, indoor pool, hot tub, gym, restaurant, tiki bar and seasonal children’s activities.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and beach-chair rentals cost extra; check breakfast coverage, including how many guests it covers.
