Norrmalm removes much of the friction from a Stockholm trip. Central Station, T-Centralen and Stockholm City put airport, regional, metro and commuter services together, while Drottninggatan, Hötorget and the streets around Sergels torg supply shopping, food and culture. For a short first visit or a work-and-sightseeing combination, this is the simplest default.
