Choose this part of downtown when the pleasure of the trip is walking between things. SoHo supplies cast-iron streets and serious shopping; Greenwich Village adds Washington Square, small performance venues and a less rigid street pattern. Christopher Street and Stonewall give LGBTQ history a physical presence rather than making it an optional excursion.

- Skip it if
- You need reliably early nights; Almost every outing is in Midtown
- Getting around
- West 4th Street has A/B/C/D/E/F/M; 1, 6 and R/W serve other nearby streets; walk between SoHo, the Village and Nolita; JFK via E–AirTrain, LGA via subway–Q70, EWR via Penn–NJ Transit.
- After dark
- Village restaurant, comedy and bar streets stay busy late; retail-focused SoHo blocks are less continuously animated after shops close.
