5.6/10
Beach, Whalers Village and meals work together on foot; erosion means you should not assume an uninterrupted southern beachwalk.

Kaanapali makes a classic Maui beach holiday straightforward. Around Kaanapali Parkway, Whalers Village and Puʻu Kekaʻa (Black Rock), you can move between beach time, meals and shopping without constantly organizing transport. Families particularly benefit from the concentration of activities; recent visitors describe teenagers enjoying that independence.
- Best for
- first-time visitorsfamiliestravelers without a carshopping
- Skip it if
- You dislike resort-district crowds; Most days involve East Maui or Upcountry
- Getting around
- Walk the main resort strip; buses 23 and 29 stop at Whalers Village; from OGG drive or take 35/40 to Kahului Transit Center, then 29.
- After dark
- Sunset ceremonies, restaurant terraces and resort entertainment make evenings sociable, but this is not a late-night town.
- Where to look
- Beachwalk beside Whalers Village. The easiest pocket for beach-and-dinner walking, with shopping and restaurant terraces close together.Southern Nohea Kai Drive. Choose the southern resort stretch for on-site holidays; shoreline erosion makes beachwalk detours part of the trade-off.Kekaa Drive near Black Rock. Stay around the headland for beach-first days; the northern side feels quieter than the main resort strip.
