#3 of 4 hotels in Kapalua & Napili by Axel's take. Kapalua & Napili is #5 of 6 places to stay in Maui. The best hotels in Kapalua & Napili, ranked · Where to stay in Maui

Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong luxury retreat for scenery and downtime, with some uneven service. a secluded 5-star coastal resort in Kapalua, scored for what it is.

This 5-star Kapalua resort is a strong pick for travelers who want landscaped grounds, coastal walks and pool time rather than a busy resort strip. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests broadly praise the spacious, clean rooms and welcoming staff; the pools, spa and Hawaiian cultural activities give you good reasons to stay put. We'd choose it for a slower Maui holiday, not effortless island-wide sightseeing.

The luxury experience isn't completely consistent: recurring feedback mentions aging furnishings and slow restaurant service alongside glowing reports. D.T. Fleming Beach requires a downhill walk or cart ride, and Kapalua can be windy. Resort fees, paid valet-only parking and expensive dining also weaken value. We'd skip it for nightlife or consistently calm beach swimming. For December 2026, confirm operations directly: October Reddit reports describe renovation-related cancellations, but we found no official closure dates.

  • Best for: couples seeking a quieter resort; families prioritizing pools and nature; coastal-walk enthusiasts

  • Watch out for: wind and a downhill beach walk; uneven dining service and substantial extras; reported December 2026 renovation cancellations

  • Location: Quiet northwest Maui setting with coastal trails; less convenient for exploring the wider island.

  • Rooms: Spacious rooms with lanais; some guests find furnishings dated despite the hotel's redesign.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness feedback, including high Expedia category ratings.

  • Service: Warm, personal hospitality earns frequent praise, but restaurant and valet experiences vary.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pools, children's pool, spa, fitness center and cultural activities; Club access requires an upgraded booking.

  • Fees and surprises: Resort fee and paid valet-only parking; December 2026 renovation cancellations reported on Reddit remain officially unconfirmed.
