7.7/10
Choose Hollywood for practical sightseeing, not the movie-star fantasy.
Hollywood wins on doorstep entertainment, useful rail and strong hotels, while middling value and tourist-heavy streets keep it from being an effortless all-round choice.

Hollywood is a practical sightseeing base disguised as a souvenir strip. Around Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, you can walk to the Chinese Theatre, movie palaces and the Walk of Fame; farther east, Vine Street brings the Pantages and more dining. Its real advantage is combining these attractions with B Line access to Universal and Downtown.
Do not confuse Hollywood with neighboring West Hollywood. Expect tour sellers, crowds and commercial streets rather than a polished residential retreat. Local forum advice favors Hollywood when subway access matters, and West Hollywood when the evening scene matters more. Skip it if your ideal LA morning starts on the sand.

- Getting around
- B Line at Hollywood/Highland and Hollywood/Vine; the boulevard is walkable; from LAX use FlyAway–Union Station–B Line, or from BUR connect by bus to North Hollywood and the B Line.
- After dark
- Theaters, bars and clubs keep the main entertainment streets active; this is a busy evening district, not a quiet retreat.
