East Hartford offers two quite different stays. Near East River Drive, Great River Park and the Founders Bridge promenade connect you with Hartford’s riverfront and downtown. Around Silver Lane, the stronger reason to stay is Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, not a neighborhood full of visitor attractions. Those locations are not interchangeable.
- Best for
- sports fanstravelers on a budget
- Skip it if
- You expect every address to be walkable to downtown; You want restaurants and bars clustered outside your door
- Getting around
- Bus 87 serves Great River Park and 95 serves Main Street; walk downtown from the riverfront via Founders Bridge, not from every address; from BDL use bus 30 to Hartford and a local connection, or drive.
- After dark
- Treat this as an event-and-dinner base rather than a nightlife district; Great River Park itself closes at sunset.
- Where to look
- East River Drive near Founders Bridge. Favor this side for riverside strolls and the pedestrian connection into Hartford; park outings belong before sunset.Roberts Street near Silver Lane. A purpose-led base for Rentschler Field visitors and drivers, rather than a district for leisurely sightseeing on foot.
