Axel's take: 7.3/10

A practical Hartford stopover, with good breakfast but uneven room upkeep. a no-frills budget chain hotel just off I-84, scored for what it is.

This no-frills budget chain hotel makes sense for a short, car-based Hartford visit. Free parking and hot breakfast help the value, and recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly staff. Its location off I-84 is useful for Rentschler Field and trips into Hartford, rather than a downtown stay where you can walk everywhere. We'd consider it for an uncomplicated overnight.

The main compromise is an aging building with uneven upkeep. Although Choice describes it as newly renovated, recent Tripadvisor and Booking.com guests still describe dated interiors, plumbing glitches and occasional musty or marijuana smells. Highway noise also recurs in Expedia reviews, so request a room away from the interstate. We'd skip it if you're sensitive to noise or odors, or want consistently fresh rooms.

• Best for: road-trippers needing an overnight stop; budget-minded business travelers with a car; visitors attending Rentschler Field events

• Watch out for: highway noise in exposed rooms; recurring odor complaints; dated bathrooms and uneven maintenance

• Location: Convenient I-84 access near Rentschler Field; better suited to drivers than downtown sightseeing on foot.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds draw praise, but dated bathrooms, plumbing problems and highway noise recur.

• Cleanliness: Recent feedback is mostly positive on room cleaning, though odor complaints appear across sites.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength, including assistance with room changes.

• Amenities: Free hot breakfast, Wi-Fi and parking, plus a gym and guest laundry.

• Fees and surprises: Early check-in, late checkout and rollaway beds can cost extra; an incidental deposit may be required.
