Axel's take: 8.4/10

Strong budget comfort and a useful kitchen, but don't expect round-the-clock help. a simple 2-star hostel in Vasastan with dorms, private rooms and shared bathrooms, scored for what it is.

Crafoord Place is a simple 2-star hostel in Vasastan, and a strong pick for budget travelers who prefer a quiet base to a party hostel. Recent Expedia and Hostelworld guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and the well-equipped communal kitchen. City and water views add appeal, while the hostel puts Central Station about a 12-minute walk away. Private rooms are available, but bathrooms are shared throughout.

The main compromise is limited on-site support: self-check-in is standard, and several guests describe difficulty finding staff when needed. Some reviews also flag small lockers and showers needing attention. Crucially, the lift stops on the seventh floor, leaving stairs to the eighth-floor hostel. We'd skip it if you need step-free access, an ensuite bathroom or an organized social scene.

  • Best for: budget-minded solo travelers; self-catering city breaks; small groups comfortable sharing bathrooms

  • Watch out for: stairs above the lift's final stop; limited staff availability and self-check-in; shared bathrooms and small lockers

  • Location: Vasastan base within walking distance of central Stockholm; the hostel estimates 12 minutes to Central Station.

  • Rooms: Mixed dorms and compact private rooms; comfortable beds earn praise, but every room uses shared bathrooms.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent reviews, with occasional complaints about shower upkeep.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn praise when available, but recent guests also report difficulty finding on-site assistance.

  • Amenities: Equipped shared kitchen, TV lounge, free Wi-Fi, lockers and paid laundry; linen and towels are included.

  • Fees and surprises: Laundry costs extra; arrival-day and departure-day luggage storage is free. The lift leaves one flight of stairs.
