#7 of 9 hotels in Gamla Stan by Axel's take. Gamla Stan is #3 of 8 places to stay in Stockholm. The best hotels in Gamla Stan, ranked · Where to stay in Stockholm

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong Old Town base if you choose your room carefully. a no-frills budget inn in Stockholm’s Old Town, scored for what it is.

Castle House Inn is a no-frills budget inn in Gamla Stan, and it makes most sense for travelers who put location ahead of hotel facilities. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the sightseeing location, cleanliness and value; recent Tripadvisor reviews also highlight helpful staff. We'd pick it for a short, mostly-on-foot Stockholm visit rather than a stay spent lounging at the hotel.

The important detail is the room category: some have private bathrooms, while others share facilities. Room sizes vary substantially, with some doubles tight enough to make getting around the bed awkward. Reception isn't staffed overnight, so confirm late-arrival arrangements rather than assuming someone will be there. We'd skip it if you want spacious, full-service comfort; otherwise, it's a practical, well-placed base.

  • Best for: budget-minded Old Town sightseers; short city breaks; travelers comfortable with shared bathrooms

  • Watch out for: Shared bathrooms in some room categories; Some doubles are very small; Late arrivals require advance confirmation

  • Location: Excellent walking base in Gamla Stan, close to the Royal Palace, restaurants and ferries.

  • Rooms: Simple rooms with widely varying space; check both room size and bathroom arrangements before booking.

  • Cleanliness: Generally a strength across guest ratings and recent reviews, rather than a recurring concern.

  • Service: Staff often earn praise, but reception has limited hours and overnight assistance is restricted.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi; breakfast costs extra. Recent guests report a lift, contradicting listings—confirm accessibility directly.

  • Fees and surprises: Late check-in may cost extra; minimum check-in age is 21, under-fours are excluded, and local-resident restrictions apply.
