The St. Regis Shanghai Jingan is a grand five-star city hotel that makes a strong case for staying away from the Bund. Its main strengths are generous rooms, skyline views and a neighborhood full of shopping and restaurants. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, comfortable accommodation and breakfast; the indoor pool and spa round out a convincing luxury offering.

The reservation is consistency rather than comfort. Alongside plenty of enthusiastic service reports, guests on both sites describe underexplained or underwhelming butler service.
