Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong sightseeing base with skyline views, but not consistently polished luxury. a large 5-star high-rise on Nanjing Road, scored for what it is.

Conrad Shanghai is a large 5-star high-rise whose strongest luxury is its location: Nanjing Road shopping, restaurants and People’s Square are close at hand. It’s a strong pick for first-time visitors who want convenience and skyline views. Booking.com and Expedia guests broadly praise cleanliness, comfortable rooms and helpful staff; breakfast variety, the indoor pool and gym are other dependable draws.

The trade-off is polish. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews repeatedly mention aging bathroom fittings and maintenance shortcomings, while some guests describe crowded breakfasts and uneven service. Hilton currently flags elevator maintenance; Expedia lists work through December 31, 2026, with possible disturbance. We’d choose it for an active city break, but skip it if freshly finished rooms, quiet common areas and seamless luxury service are priorities.

• Best for: first-time Shanghai visitors; shopping and sightseeing trips; travelers who prioritize skyline views

• Watch out for: elevator maintenance through December 2026; aging room and bathroom fittings; busy breakfasts and uneven service

• Location: Excellent for Nanjing Road shopping, dining and access to People’s Square.

• Rooms: Comfort and views earn praise, but dated fittings and maintenance faults recur.

• Cleanliness: Generally rated highly; bathroom wear occasionally detracts from the impression.

• Service: Many guests praise individual staff, though check-in and problem handling can be inconsistent.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, spa, gym and varied breakfast; executive rooms include lounge access.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and extra beds can cost extra; elevator work is listed through December 31, 2026.
