Axel's take: 8.9/10

Dependable luxury with generous rooms and an especially convenient Jing’an location. a five-star high-rise luxury hotel in central Jing’an, scored for what it is.

Jing An Shangri-La is a five-star high-rise hotel that makes a strong case for choosing Jing’an over the waterfront. Connected to Kerry Centre’s shopping and dining, it puts Jing’an Temple and the metro within easy walking distance. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, spacious rooms and helpful staff. Entry-level rooms measure about 42 square metres, with floor-to-ceiling windows; the 25-metre indoor pool and substantial fitness facilities round out a convincing luxury stay.

The trade-off is personality: this is polished, conventional luxury rather than a design-led boutique hotel. Some Tripadvisor guests find the décor dated and Café Liang busy at breakfast, although breakfast feedback elsewhere is largely positive. Horizon Club service earns particularly warm praise. We’d choose it for business trips or comfortable city exploring; skip it if waterfront atmosphere or cutting-edge interiors are priorities.

• Best for: business travelers; shopping and dining trips; travelers wanting spacious city-view rooms

• Watch out for: conventional rather than contemporary styling; breakfast can be busy; breakfast and parking may cost extra

• Location: Connected to Kerry Centre, with Jing’an Temple, shopping and metro access nearby.

• Rooms: Deluxe rooms start around 42 square metres; generous layouts and city views draw consistent praise.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest feedback.

• Service: Recent reviews strongly favor helpful staff, with particularly enthusiastic feedback for Horizon Club.

• Amenities: Heated 25-metre indoor pool, 24-hour gym, spa and several restaurants and bars.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; Expedia lists paid parking, and Horizon Club access requires an eligible booking.
