An excellent downtown base with apartment independence and unusually consistent service. an upscale 4-star apartment hotel spread across downtown buildings, scored for what it is.

Reykjavik Residence is an upscale 4-star apartment hotel spread across historic downtown buildings, rather than one conventional hotel. It's a strong pick for travelers who want kitchen facilities without giving up daily housekeeping or a staffed reception. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spotless apartments, helpful staff and the walkable location. Breakfast baskets with fresh bread are another recurring highlight, and self-catering makes longer stays more practical.

The main trade-off is that your building matters: some guests report late-night street and bar noise, while others describe quiet stays. The hotel confirms your address on arrival day, so don't assume you'll sleep at reception on Vatnsstígur 2. Parking is off-site and generally paid. We'd look elsewhere if guaranteed quiet or a single-building hotel setup is essential.

• Best for: families wanting kitchen facilities; independent city explorers; longer stays with hotel support

• Watch out for: street and bar noise in some apartments; building confirmed on arrival day; off-site paid parking

• Location: Central, walkable buildings near shopping, restaurants and tour pickup stops.

• Rooms: Well-equipped kitchenettes and varied layouts; recent guests generally praise comfort and space.

• Cleanliness: Exceptionally consistent praise across recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews.

• Service: Helpful staff, daily housekeeping and a 24-hour reception at Vatnsstígur 2.

• Amenities: Breakfast baskets, free shared laundry in two buildings, Wi-Fi and Port 9 wine bar.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra unless included; parking and private airport transfers are paid. The city says Vatnsstígur streetworks finished in July 2026.
