Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong harbour base with welcoming staff, but choose your room carefully. a characterful 4-star beside Reykjavík’s working Old Harbour, scored for what it is.

Reykjavík Marina, now under the Berjaya name, is a characterful 4-star beside the working Old Harbour. It’s a strong pick for exploring on foot rather than a luxury retreat. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, helpful staff and breakfast, while the colourful lounges, library and Slippbarinn bar give it more personality than a standard city hotel.

The compromises are upstairs: standard doubles are compact, bathrooms can feel cramped, and road-facing rooms attract recurring traffic-noise complaints. We’d request a harbour-facing room, remembering that the outlook includes a working dry dock, not just pretty boats. Breakfast may cost extra, and there’s no dedicated hotel parking; a September 2026 Expedia guest also reported nearby construction complicating parking. Skip it if quiet, generous room space or effortless car access are priorities.

• Best for: couples exploring Reykjavík on foot; harbour tours and nearby restaurants; travelers who enjoy characterful communal spaces

• Watch out for: traffic noise in road-facing rooms; compact standard rooms and bathrooms; no dedicated parking; recent construction disruption

• Location: Walkable Old Harbour setting near restaurants and boat tours; views can include the working dry dock.

• Rooms: Standard doubles are listed at 17 square metres; larger categories offer more space, but road noise is a recurring complaint.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across guest-review sites, including recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Repeated praise for welcoming reception staff, local advice and help resolving room requests.

• Amenities: Slippbarinn restaurant and bar, library lounges, free Wi-Fi and an early grab-and-go breakfast option.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; early or late check-in/out can attract fees, and nearby construction affected parking in September 2026.
