#4 of 8 hotels in Laugardalur by Axel's take. Laugardalur is #5 of 5 places to stay in Reykjavik. The best hotels in Laugardalur, ranked · Where to stay in Reykjavik
Axel's take: 8.2/10
A clean, practical base with free parking, best suited to travelers with a car. a simple 3-star hotel in a residential area outside central Reykjavik, scored for what it is.
Nordurey is a simple 3-star in residential Laugardalur, and we'd pick it for a straightforward Reykjavik stop rather than a doorstep sightseeing break. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness and comfortable rooms, while breakfast generally earns good feedback despite some finding the selection limited. Free parking and code-based entry make it particularly practical for independent travelers touring Iceland by car.
The trade-off is distance: allow roughly half an hour to walk into the center, with relatively few restaurants immediately nearby. Rooms can be compact, and several guests mention warmth or limited ventilation. Reception is only staffed part-time, so save your entry instructions before arriving; this isn't a full-service hotel. We'd skip it if you want nightlife outside the door or staff available around the clock.
-
Best for: Iceland road-trippers; Independent travelers comfortable with self-check-in; Short stays away from downtown bustle
-
Watch out for: Roughly 30-minute walk to the center; Compact rooms; some ventilation complaints; Limited reception hours and on-site parking
-
Location: Residential Laugardalur, near Laugardalslaug public pool but a substantial walk from central sights.
-
Rooms: Simple, generally comfortable rooms; compact layouts and excessive warmth feature in some reviews.
-
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent guest accounts.
-
Service: Code-based entry works well for many guests; limited staffing makes assistance less immediate.
-
Amenities: Breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, elevator and garden; superior doubles offer a terrace.
-
Fees and surprises: Parking is free, but on-site spaces are limited and guests may need nearby street parking.
