#6 of 9 hotels in Laugavegur & Hallgrímskirkja by Axel's take. Laugavegur & Hallgrímskirkja is #2 of 5 places to stay in Reykjavik. The best hotels in Laugavegur & Hallgrímskirkja, ranked · Where to stay in Reykjavik

Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong sightseeing base with welcoming staff, but little room to spread out. A simple, family-run 3-star opposite Hallgrímskirkja, scored for what it is.

Leifur Eiriksson is a simple, family-run 3-star whose biggest asset is its position opposite Hallgrímskirkja. It's a strong pick for exploring Reykjavík on foot rather than spending much time in your room. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and cleanliness; Booking.com feedback reinforces the appeal of the location and breakfast. Complimentary tea and coffee throughout the day add a welcome extra.

The compromises are practical: bedrooms and especially bathrooms can be very small, and there is no elevator. Rooms occupy two buildings, so confirm your allocation if that matters. Breakfast is generally well received, but check whether your booking includes it. Parking is public and subject to city charges, not a guaranteed free hotel amenity. We'd skip it if stairs are difficult or spacious rooms are a priority.

  • Best for: First-time Reykjavík sightseers; Solo travelers and couples packing light; Travelers joining tours at Bus Stop 8

  • Watch out for: No elevator; Compact rooms and bathrooms; Public parking charges

  • Location: Opposite Hallgrímskirkja, close to Bus Stop 8 and walkable to central shops and restaurants.

  • Rooms: Simple and generally comfortable; sizes vary, with particularly compact economy rooms and bathrooms.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent positive in recent Tripadvisor and Expedia feedback.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength; reception operates around the clock.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, bar/lounge, buffet breakfast and complimentary all-day tea and coffee.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; nearby public parking follows city charges, and rooms span two buildings without an elevator.
