Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong-value Reykjavík base if you don't need downtown on your doorstep. A straightforward 3-star hotel outside central Reykjavík, scored for what it is.

Hótel Múli is a straightforward 3-star outside central Reykjavík, and a strong pick for travelers who favor practical comforts over a central address. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful staff and a generous breakfast buffet. Free parking, complimentary self-service laundry and round-the-clock tea and coffee make it particularly useful before or after a road trip.

The main compromise is location: allow roughly 30–40 minutes to walk into the center, or use nearby buses. Rooms are functional rather than fancy, and some guests find them compact or overly warm. There is no full-service restaurant or bar, and late arrivals should follow the hotel's access instructions rather than assume an overnight staffed desk. We'd skip it for a nightlife-focused city break, but happily shortlist it for a practical, good-value stay.

• Best for: Road-trippers with a rental car; Value-minded couples; Travelers comfortable using buses

• Watch out for: Roughly 30–40 minutes' walk to the center; Some rooms feel compact or warm; Limited staffed reception hours

• Location: Outside the downtown core, with nearby buses, supermarkets and places to eat.

• Rooms: Simple, comfortable accommodation; room sizes vary, with larger family options available.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia feedback.

• Service: Staff earn repeated praise; the official FAQ lists staffed reception from 09:00–22:00 with virtual assistance overnight.

• Amenities: Breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, parking, self-service laundry and all-day hot drinks; no full-service restaurant or bar.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and laundry are advertised as free; confirm breakfast inclusion and late-arrival instructions for your booking.
