#1 of 8 hotels in Laugardalur by Axel's take. Laugardalur is #5 of 5 places to stay in Reykjavik. The best hotels in Laugardalur, ranked · Where to stay in Reykjavik
Axel's take: 9.1/10
Excellent small-hotel hospitality and breakfast, with a less convenient location for sightseeing on foot. a small, family-run 3-star hotel outside central Reykjavík, scored for what it is.
Hotel Lotus is a small, family-run 3-star outside central Reykjavík, and a particularly strong pick for travelers with a rental car. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise spotless rooms, comfortable beds and genuinely helpful staff. The included breakfast is a standout rather than an afterthought, with smoked salmon, skyr and pastries; free parking adds practical value. It delivers the comfort and personal attention a good small hotel should.
The compromise is location: allow roughly 25–35 minutes to walk to the main downtown sights, or plan on driving or taking a bus. Some standard rooms feel tight with large suitcases. Recent guests also describe code-based self-check-in, so confirm your arrival instructions rather than expecting someone at reception. We'd skip it for a nightlife-focused, entirely walkable city break, but happily choose it as a comfortable base for exploring Iceland.
-
Best for: self-drive Iceland itineraries; couples prioritizing comfort over downtown bustle; travelers who appreciate personal service
-

-
Location: Outside the downtown core; free parking and nearby buses make it better suited to drivers.
-
Rooms: Modern, comfortable rooms; sizes vary, and only selected categories have balconies.
-
Cleanliness: Consistently strong across sites, including a 9.6 cleanliness rating on Booking.com.
-
Service: Warm, helpful staff earn repeated praise; reception is not always staffed on arrival.
-
Amenities: Included breakfast, free Wi-Fi and a shared lounge; takeaway breakfast can be arranged ahead.
-
