#1 of 4 hotels in Old Harbour & Grandi by Axel's take. Old Harbour & Grandi is #3 of 5 places to stay in Reykjavik. The best hotels in Old Harbour & Grandi, ranked · Where to stay in Reykjavik

Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong central base, with standout staff and decidedly compact rooms. a small, renovated 3-star in central Reykjavik, scored for what it is.

Local 101 is a small, renovated 3-star that gets the important basics right: cleanliness, comfortable beds and genuinely helpful service. It's a strong pick for exploring Reykjavik on foot, with the harbour, restaurants and downtown sights close by. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the staff, while breakfast and the hotel's Litli Barinn restaurant earn plenty of positive mentions. We'd choose it for a short city stay rather than extensive facilities.

The main compromise is space. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly describe small bedrooms, tight bathrooms and limited luggage storage; some Tripadvisor guests also flag awkward sinks and shower splashing. Breakfast can feel crowded in the compact communal area. We'd skip it if you want room to spread out. Drivers should note that the hotel's street-parking guidance allows for charges, despite Expedia advertising free parking nearby.

  • Best for: couples on short city breaks; solo travelers exploring on foot; travelers prioritizing personal service

  • Watch out for: compact rooms and limited luggage storage; tight bathrooms with some splash complaints; street-parking charges may apply

  • Location: Central, generally quiet setting within walking distance of the harbour, restaurants and downtown sights.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds, but recurring complaints about small rooms, tight bathrooms and limited storage.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and recent Expedia guest feedback.

  • Service: Helpful, attentive staff are one of the clearest recurring positives.

  • Amenities: Restaurant-bar, breakfast, communal coffee and tea, elevator and a listed 24-hour gym.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; pet fees and accommodation tax are listed, and street parking may cost extra.
