Comfortable beds and a worthwhile spa, but sightseeing requires a longer walk. a practical 4-star spa hotel outside central Reykjavík, scored for what it is.

Hotel Ísland is a practical 4-star outside central Reykjavík, better suited to an excursion-based trip than a walk-everywhere city break. We'd pick it for comfortable beds, free parking and convenient tour pickups. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness and helpful staff, while recent visitors particularly enjoy unwinding in Silfra Spa after sightseeing. It's a comfortable base rather than a luxury wellness retreat.

The main compromise is location: expect roughly a 30–40-minute walk to the downtown sights, or use buses and taxis. Some furnishings and bathrooms feel dated, so don't assume every room matches the smartest photographs. Check whether breakfast and spa admission are included in your booking; the spa is restricted to guests aged 16 and over. We'd skip it for nightlife on the doorstep or swimming with younger children.

• Best for: travelers exploring by rental car; couples wanting a post-excursion spa; organized-tour travelers

• Watch out for: 30–40-minute walk to downtown sights; some dated room interiors; spa ages 16+; admission may cost extra

• Location: Near Laugardalur, with nearby buses and doorstep tour pickups; outside the main sightseeing core.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds earn repeated praise; room finishes vary, with some dated bathrooms and furnishings.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Friendly, accommodating reception staff are a recurring highlight.

• Amenities: Silfra Spa has soaking and floating facilities; Hekla restaurant, a bar and a gym are also available.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; check breakfast and spa inclusions, and note the spa's minimum age of 16.
